 This air chisel is designed for shearing, mccullochchainsaws driving, and numerous automotive applications such as removing mufflers and tailpipe assemblies. The days of using hammer and chisels in a paleontology laboratory are not over, and probably never will be, but some relatively new mechanical preparation tools have made life in the lab a lot easier. Two types of tools, never originally designed to be used on fossils, are rapidly becoming indispensable: pneumatic air scribes and air abrasive cutting tools. Each has a different use with fossil material, but both share a common goal--the removal of hard matrix. There is no more versatile machine in the mobile equipment marketplace than the skid-steer loader. And with typical yearly sales in excess of 60,000 units, it''s clear that these machines, seen by many as the Swiss Army knife of construction machines, have penetrated a wide range of applications.But not all of them, in part because of the very nature of the beast.A skid-steer mccullochchainsaws loader, as the name indicates, maneuvers by "skidding"--slowing or stopping the wheels on one side of the machine, while keeping the other side rolling. This system, highly valued because of its simplicity and effectiveness, particularly in tight spaces, does have drawbacks in some applications. When operated in grassy areas, skidding the tires can scuff up the turf, a real nono in venues such as parks or golf courses. Even where ground disturbance is not an issue, tire wear, or even wearing of the surface on which the machine operates, can sometimes cause problems.
